March 11, 2011

On March 11, 2011, a 9.0 earthquake off the northeastern coast of Japan unleashed a Tsunami of unprecedented magnitude inundating Japan's eastern coastline that ultimately resulted in a catastrophic nuclear meltdown and left tens of thousand people dead and missing in its wake.

Rising from the ashes later that year, a group of professionals from the Fashion, Art, Music, and Entertainment industry (FAME) decided to come together under the leadership of Alexander Mecl to incorporate Ribbon For Japan, a Los Angeles based nonprofit public benefit corporation recognized and officially registered with the Secretary of State in California on September 27, 2011, and the Internal Revenue Service under the 501(c)(3) IRS guidelines.

History may not repeat itself, but it does rhyme

Los Angeles, USA

On February 10, 2020, as we witnessed the Covid-19 pandemic starting to unfold in Wuhan, China, our local Asian American community living on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California took swift action to start raising funds to combat the Covid-19 pandemic that has ultimately resulted in 619 million infections around the globe . With the generous financial support of our supportive loyal community from Coast to Coast, we have jointly procured over 5.5 million surgical face masks, face shields, hand wipes, sanitizer, and other critically needed personal protective equipment (PPE).

With the exception of shipping supplies and freight delivery costs, all financial contributions were used Dollar for Dollar to purchase PPEs. Beneficiaries have included various public institutions and private foundations serving the public throughout the United States. From local law enforcement agencies, first responders, fire fighters, to the LA County Sheriff’s Office, supermarkets, including Pavilions, Ralphs, Trader Joe’s, and Bristol Farms, the TGR Foundation started by Tiger Woods in 1996, to the Torrance Adult School, county nursing homes, and urgent care facilities, Ribbon For Humanity is trying to have a lasting impact on our fight against COVID-19 while making a difference for our communities by continuing to supply them with urgently needed PPEs or logistical support.

Aside from the viral pandemic that has cost countless lives, we are experiencing a social and economic pandemic of a magnitude never seen in modern history. The fight against the Covid-19 virus and the destruction it caused, will forever be documented for generations to come.  And let’s not forget the many heroic people on the front lines, who are doing their part to participate in this ongoing effort, making personal contributions and sacrifices to keep America going.

Since the founding of our nonprofit in 2011, we have provided the following countries with humanitarian assistance and aid: El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Japan, Philippines, Somaliland, Sri Lanka, People’s Republic of China, St. Vincent, United States of America.

Our compassionate team at Ribbon For Humanity, fully committed to serving the public benefit, will continue to do its part in this ongoing fight to preserve and protect humanity!

United we are stronger!
