In a surprising move today the Russian Ministry of Health officially announced that they had issued a certificate that allows a vaccine developed by Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow to be distributed and administered to a small group of at-risk individuals.

The press release does point out that a wider distribution of the vaccine would not be allowed until January 2021, when the Institute would have more clinical data to support and to demonstrate the vaccine’s effectiveness.
